Thank you for your responses Eric, Richard, and Scott.
Looks like Eric identified the culprit and hilitedLine works fine in
place of selectedLine. If I could impose just a little more while I
have your attention, how would I simulate a mouse click to a
particular line in a list field? The command
send mouseUp to line 1 of fld "My List Field"
works only for line 1 and no other.
I use this all the time:
...
set the hilitedlines of fld "My List Field" to 666
## or another less frightening number :-)
send mouseUp to fld "My List Field"
...
