What is the benefit of replicating the web payment form in the software?

Not sure there is any but you don't have to do that with eSellerate. The current version of the eSellerate SDK uses a browser instance within the software to take you through the purchase process on the esellerate server. You just make a call to the eSellerate SDK and it handles everything else. Of course the eSellerate SDK deals with other things besides just purchasing which some developers may need.

One of the benefits of purchasing from within the software is that the eSellerate SDK will return the license key. You can then register the software for the user. This does provide instant gratification and requires a few less steps for the user.
