I think I also had a case where the error dialog prevented me from going
to browse mode while the dialog was hidden behind another window, as Tom
suggests.
Thanks for all the suggestions. As it turns out, the client was running
2.8.1, and when he upgraded to 2.9 the problem went away. I never saw
the issue with 2.8.1 myself so I'm not sure what happened, but
apparently it's fixed.
