Hi Colin,
I don't think you can safely assume that you will find the ico file in
the root of a web site. You should check whether a link to an ico file
has been specified for a particular page.

I believe that it's always favicon.ico. So for example the one for
runrev would be:
http://www.runrev.com/favicon.ico
if they had one. The one for Adobe is:
http://www.adobe.com/favicon.ico
Apple's:
http://www.apple.com/favicon.ico
Unity3D's:
http://unity3d.com/favicon.ico
and so on.
