Thanks Jacque, Richard, Andre. Actually this is starting to be funny to me... I don't have any problem saving files in the directories where my script is doing its work; it's the 'create stack' command (actually "create inv stack ...") that hangs execution, which shouldn't have anything to do with file/directory access. Also, I can 'go invisible' to stacks on the server, using long or short names.

(Makes me think: What's an elephant like? Well, it's like a tree. No, it's like a wall! No...)

The malfunctions are occurring in the code of stacks in use, which live in a folder outside the reach of the HTTP server. It's in a Dreamhost account.

Some day I'll create some better test cases and try to find the bottom of this, and report anything that surfaces. Until then, thanks much for your responses and Happy Thanksgiving.

Folks,

You can create a card, stack, whatever... but you can't go to it. You
need to use full references to use the cards or stacks created, but I
think you might be able to set the defaultstack. As for writting to
files, try using tempname() and then echoing the stack back to the
browser as a file to be downloaded (mime: application/octet-stream if
I remember correctly)

... and forget about the export snapshot command, it's not there.

Also, I just learned you can't "pop card" in a CGI, at least not using the
basic structure. I didn't try popping a card into a variable, etc.
It might work if you push the long ID of the card. I've had trouble with
card references in CGIs before that were solved that way.
