Yes, seems apple is warming to the idea and advantages of publishing file

there is an intersting reveiew of MacOS X Leopard, with a focus here  
on FSEvents. This monitors file system events, if I understand well. I  
do not know if it is has a public API. I guess you should look for the  
FSEvents framework in the Leopard/XCode doc.
