I found that the script editor is actually named "revNewScriptEditor 1" 
whereas the function "the stacks" returns "revScriptEditor". This is why I 
could 
not find the offending line.

This line, "set the backgroundColor of field "Script" of me to 
sePrefGet("editor,backgroundColor")"

and variations, occurs in several places in the stack script. Following 
Jackie's warning, I will not modify the script, but rather follow your advice 
and 
delete the preferences file.
