And I DID sign up, like Marty, and got a password, but using that
password and my email I got the "Couldn't connect..." message as I
originally reported. I have never been able to log in. I also tried
the "Forgot your password?" link and got "Resetting your password..."
and nothing else -- no further text, no email message, no nothing. I
guess the server is down, because now I can't even get a listing of
stacks.

George, I had the same thing happen. You need to set up a new
account with a new password. Then it'll connect you.
