the problem that I have with password fonts is that they can be copy pasted, which makes them unsuitable.

For example:

1. Secret text is entered and shown using a pw-font.
2. Someone copies text out of field
3. Someone copies text into textedit/ editor.exe

at this point the text is plainly visible. So the pw-font only offers a security if it's not shown again, at which point one has to do the most of the same amount of work as when replacing the text right away with stars (*).
