Because the unicode consortium did not make space for all the highly complex characters required to produce properly digitised Devanagari (Hindi/Sanskrit) text a semi-official standard has been evolved by indologists whereby most characters are stored in a non-unicode area starting beyond the 65535 limitation of the Basic Multilingual Plane (at 65538). As far as I can tell these
characters are completely inaccessible to Runtime Revolution.
