They might have been, but the symptoms aren't quite the same.

I've had memory problems in a loop that imported a snapshot, resized it, saved a new snapshot to disk and then deleted the resized snapsnot. This grabbed RAM each loop, and eventually crashes the standalone app or the IDE if left running long enough - but unlike the linked bug it crashes with a standard OS 'this app has crashed' dialog, on both Windows and OS X. No halting halfway through a handler, no 'silent' crashes and no crashes leaving a window and icon visible.
