Hi List: Is it reasonable to have users run an app from a DMG volume on OS X, as opposed to copying the app to their drive?
I have a colleague who wants to distribute an app in an easily launched compressed format. On Windows one can create a self-expanding ZIP that, when double-clicked, automatically decompresses and launches the contained EXE. I'm wondering if a DMG file could serve the same purpose on OS X. I assume the DMG volume is not writable, but I don't think it matters in this case since the files are a bunch of media (Flash movies, PDF, etc). Thanks for any advice here.
