Found it at last: About object types and object references: Images can display data in GIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, XWD, XBM, XPM, PBM, PGM, or PBM formats. On Mac OS and OS X systems, PICT files can also be displayed (but they cannot be displayed on Unix or Windows systems).
How was I to know that when looking for IMAGE FORMATS I had to search under OBJECT TYPES? How is anybody to know? What a pain in the PBM.
