No Shell on OS X?

Hi Folks,

I am trying to use the shell() function on OS X (Rev 2.1, OS X 10.2.6) 
and am getting the following error:

Handler: can't find handler
Object: Button 1
Line: shell("ls -l")
Hint: shell
Does anyone have any ideas why this will not work?
