Get picture of a card without showing it?

Is there a way to effectively take a snapshot of a card without it 
being visible?  The visual effects stretch and shrink seem to be able 
to do that, but, so far, it is beyond me.  I've been able to minimize 
the time at that card, but the card still flashes.
