I haven't installed 10.3 yet, being a bit cautious, but an extra HD is one the way to make room.

There must be a workaround... if one of you can send a standalone that exhibits this behavior I can take a peek on OS X 10.3 and see if fiddling with the app bundle can make it stop wanting to run with Classic.
