how can i get a complete listing of the folders in a folder like
myDocs pictures documents sounds old_pictures music . . . and so forth

Try this:
answer folder "Select the myDocs folder:" put it into pathToMyDocs if pathToMyDocs is empty then exit to top set the defaultFolder to pathToMyDocs put the folders into folderList
