I am having no difficulty importing jpg or png for a card background but it says in the docs that you can use eps (encapsulated postscript) for an image background but when I import it it appears that maybe it was imported (it takes a few seconds and there a no dialogue that says it isn't working but there is also no indication that it did work.
There's such a thing as an EPS object, but it's only available on Unix systems that have Display Postscript available.
