To delete the clip, right-click (ctrl-click) on it in the Application Browser and choose delete from the resultant dropdown menu.

Would using a .WAV file help keep the size down? FWIW, I personally still prefer to import all graphics and sounds into my stacks because then there is no chance that the sound (or image) will get separated from its stack.
