I don't know if this will work but due to previously unstable OSs I have been waking my system from sleep by hitting the spacebar. It works every time. When I used to move the mouse it would do what you said and sometimes it would work. So I got in the habit of just tapping the space bar once.
Maybe a mouse down sent to the space bar would also do the trick from within REV????
I don't have the time right now to test it, Let me know if it works.

I realize that I probably won't be able to wake the screen from sleep, but I am tantalizingly close to being able to turn off the screen saver. Has anyone else managed to do this? If it can't be done, I guess I can always write myself a fake screen saver in Revolution, but I would rather let the system do all the work :-)
