Thanks to you all for your input.
I solved the problem. It turns out that the JPG image was corrupted in some way. I re-created the JPG and re-imported it. The problem went away when I did that.
Seems strange to me that it ran differently from the CD than from the hard drive...? Go figure.
I'm just happy that I was able to solve it.
