What would be good to aspire to would be the Shockwave model, where if a required component is missing, the player retrieves it on-the-fly. The beta version of the latest shockwave player is under 2 megs. I downloaded it yesterday in less than 6 seconds. I imagine the Dreamcard player could evolve to working similarly.
I think the only thing missing to have this type of functionality is the ability to load externals dynamically.
