one approach to Scott's problem is to have the app recognize the situation, try not to let anything show, do the deed and then quit.
That's exactly what my reVise standalone does...but it knows if the file/folder is to be compressed/decompressed by the file extension.
Unless it's obvious which folder within the app bundle is to contain the dropped file, it seems to me a user prompt is necessary.
