Some Windows programs (and even some UNIX apps anymore) detach themselves from the tty from which they were launched; this would most likely result in Rev returning early, even while the app is still running.

If the application is writing to the console instead of to stdout, then this might not work. Maybe there is a way to ask the console window for data. Or maybe there is a switch to control output.
Piping might be a good way to check the output hypothesis.
