This works OK for me - whether I type 2 or 2.0 or 2.5 into the field. Is there maybe some odd invisible character in there ?
What happens if you do
put the fld "vTXpower" into tnum
put tnum into msg
How about
put the fld "vTXpower" into tnum
add 1 to tnum
