Well, that would do it. Yes, the backgroundBehavior is set to true...it must be the default setting as I never changed it.

Groups that have their backgroundBehavior property set to true become part of the message path, as per HyperCard.

If your menu group doesn't have the backgroundBehavior set to true then
maybe something else is at play...
