In fact, the problem is with the menu items, Paste and Paste Objects. I will reset my Rev preferences as you suggested, Sarah. It seems that the problem is more likely to occur when the group or background into which I want to paste the object has its size and position locked, although I can't say for sure if that's the cause.

Yes. My workaround is to use the menuItem for paste Object. This works
more often than not. Control-v just doesn't work. A useful check to
see if you've pasted something behind another object is to look at the
Application Browser and see if a new object has appeared.

There is a bug where the command key menu shortcuts sometimes stop
working. The fix is to reset your Rev preferences.
