that may have been the problem, Trevor. When I noticed CocoaMySQL hadn't been updated in a long time, i figured I'd be better off finding a more active project to use anyway.

Are you running MySQL 4.1? If so it was probably a password issue. After doing the password fix that has been mentioned on this list CocoaMySQL works fine with MySQL 4.1 on Tiger.
