In general the Rosetta technology is compatible with whatever you throw at it. The desire for Universal Binaries is IMHO mostly a marketing issue and not a performance or compatibility issue. During the 68K to PPC conversion there was a similar technology (I forget the name) and apps that were converted to PPC were bug for bug compatible with the 68K version. Rosetta is different but it does essentially the same thing and in essentially the same way.
