Easy enough for you and me, but imagine a newcomer with the same question for implementing that standard OS control type.

Sure, I can make two objects to get the appearance and behavior of one, and I suppose there's an upside here: such controls are commonly used in drawing environments, and there are so many other challenges inherent in doing such things in Rev that the two-for-one placard control will seem easy. :)
