I take it to be a derivative of Latin mens, "mind" (as in Mensa, or "mens sana in corpore sano"), and like you I guess a couple of l's to have gotten lost at the end (what are a few consants among fiends?), so it's "unmensefull" which would either "without being concerned" or "thoughtlessly" . . . This isn't getting me very far, is it. I think I'll go out and starts shoveling the snow.
