It's a little difficult to interpret the telegraphic style of the
comments found in this Bugzilla report, but it is obvious that this kind
of thing has a certain history. There is also a mention of difficulties
with copying and pasting under certain circumstances.
In relation to my own case, using Ubuntu Linux, difficulty copying and
pasting with the use of CTRL+C and CTRL+V happens all the time. But if I
go to the menu to copy/paste, all is well. This might be a little thing,
but it don't arf get on your nerves! Also, as you might have seen the
other day when I published on the List an e-mail I sent to Mark
Waddingham (and incidentally received only stony silence in response
to), the IDE goes mad when it feels like it if I use CTRL+S to save my
stack without closing the editing window.
However, I have just conducted a little experiment. I tried opening the
Ubuntu equivalent of Notepad and copying something to the clipboard. I
then closed "Notepad", opened it again, and tried pasting. Nothing!
Nada! So Gordy was right: this is not essentially a Rev issue, though to
say the very least I think that Rev should start bashing Ubuntu, which
is what I am inclined to start doing. They produce a decent stable
version. And then they start adding in all kinds of "goodies" and as a
consequence some of the most fundamental things stop working, and they
appear not to notice! It's infuriating.
So what I said -
"I think it will either not be addressed, or it will take half a yonk to fix"
- appears to be true, but not in quite the way I first imagined.
So here's what I am going to do. I'll publish the widgets on the
Internet as "beta for Ubuntu Linux", but with the understanding that
widget output needs to be got (gotten for the Americans) from the HD and
not the clipboard. When I am satisfied that the widgets can be declared
"stable", I'll publish the source code so that other prople can make the
(hopefully) simple adaptions to other versions of Linux and Mac. Then
I'll rip out my Ubuntu and see how the widgets behave under the
Brazilian Linux called "Kurumin" (Debian based, KDE this time). In all
probability, the Chooser Widgets Test Pack for Ubuntu Linux will be
ready sometime today. I'll let you know.

Pehaps I'm a little riled up after "having" to send an e-mail
about the general question of bugs, but surely the fact that
this happens in Ubuntu Linux MAKES it a Rev issue, don't you think?
But even if it mucks up my application completely, and the
same thing happens in other distributions of Linux, I won't
waste my time complaining about it because I think it will
either not be addressed, or it will take half a yonk to fix.
