By "doesn't work" I mean that although the script editor comes up,

active, which is normally not the case when the script editor comes
up. The script in this mode doesn't show the cursor, and trying to

When the "non-editable script editor" opens, is it the script of the
object you were expecting? I'm wondering if something is setting the
defaultStack to a different stack. That might explain why clicking on
the button works. (The click may reset the defaultStack.) Just a
thought.
