Hi,
I did a test, too. None of the beeps is heard and no status messages
seen. First, I did a normal test, then I removed all plugins, but
this makes no difference.
I did the test with messagetester.rev, on a PowerMac G3 with Mac OS X 10.4.8.

To add a tile to the puzzle:
Mac mini G4 OSX 10.3.9
PowerBook G4 OSX 10.4.8
Both pass the test. In both cases clean Rev 2.7.x install.
