Personally I have stopped providing visual feedback on objects for drag/drop events until the engine behavior is fixed (Rev is aware of it). It is too easy to break and end up with objects that are always highlighted (or visual feedback that does not reflect the actual operation that will be performed when the drop occurs).
I think the problem is increased if the objects are near the edge of the window or near other objects. A workaround is to make sure they have blank space all around them. This looks clunky and I don't think it is a complete solution, but it does improve it.
