Ok, I was confused about the two problems again for a second and misunderstood what was being said. So just to make is clear:

1. If you set the alwaysBuffer flag of the templateImage to false the memory leak goes away in the IDE. It also slows down a bit, is this to be expected?

2. the alwaysBuffer has no effect on the "magic" number of files written. It still goes wrong in file 289.

I forgot to ask about that. That looks like a separate issue. Is your memory leak gone though?

I'll add to the bug report and mention the numbering issue. If I remember right, the numbering error only happens with PNGs.
