You can, but I'm not sure what the benefit would be.

Either you don't have the Adobe Reader plug-in installed, in which case you are using *exactly* the same rendering engine as Preview but without the navigation controls, search, zoom functions etc. Or you have the Adobe Reader plug-in and are getting almost identical results to opening the file directly in Reader.
