This begins to address what has been a major concern of mine with
Revolution. I have been evaluating the software and am interested in
purchasing it. However, it seems to have the worst upgrade policy of any
software that I have used.
No updates, even minor versions for standard users?
All of the other development software that I use at least gives minor
upgrades to users at no charge. Why is Revolution different?
I don't need the printed documentation and would gladly pay $600 for a
version that has no printed docs but where I can get free updates.
I suspect that the pricing model currently being used will keep Revolution
from becoming a mainstream product. This is unfortunate as it would seem to
finally be a consumer-type replacement for HyperCard. Unfortunately, the
pricing assumes that all customers will be corporate customers. Given the
nature of the product, this shouldn't be the case. I plan on using the
software for my own development purposes, not for commercial use. I have a
feeling that there are many others in a similar situation.
