Title: Re: Update Pricing

Heather,

I understand the desire here, it seems the issue is just one of clarity. In most cases, making things simpler wins out. Here's a suggestion that might make life easier to handle (and describe):

1) You have the Professional license, which is the $995 subscription model, and earns free updates for a year. At the end of that year, they can opt to continue using the last update of Rev that they had received under their subscription, or they could pay an subscription fee (note the change in terms from "upgrade" to "subscription fee") to subscribe to another year's worth of updates.

OR

2) You have the Standard license, which is a one-time $349 expense that purchases the current version of Rev, period. A Standard license can always be upgraded (note the term) to a Professional License at any time by paying the difference ($646) which can get them on the the then-current version of Rev, and put them on the subscription track.

I think where it gets confusing is (a) some confusion in the terms used (upgrade/update) which I hope I addressed above, and (b) the ability to people to buy multiple "standard" licenses. I understand the rationale; suppose someone bought 1.0 for $349, saw 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0 released, and then wanted to upgrade to 2.0. Your current licensing options allow the user to purchase ANOTHER standard license (this time of 2.0) for $349, OR pay for individual updates to get you there AND/OR pay for updater packs(?)... it it quite an array of options.

How about:

"Standard Edition: $349 - 1 user, no updates, no tech support (other than the list), no printed docs.
Professional Edition: $995 - 1 user, 1 year's worth of updates, 1 year's worth of email tech support, printed docs. $299 renewal price.

Standard Edition Upgade to Professional Edition - $650 - upgrades a single user Standard Edition to a single user Professional Edition.

Educational, multi-user and site licenses are available. Contact Runtime Revolution for more information."

Simpler is better.
