Another question for the experts?

I need to be able to open external pdf files from within Runtime
Revolution. I've explored the list archives and found mention of
several solutions. BTW, I'm using Revolution for MacOS X.

Geoff suggested the use of the following for opening external file on MacOS:

send tfilepath to application "Finder" with "aevtodoc"

I've tried this solution on both MacOS and MacOSX and consistently am
getting an "Error -50" My asumption is that "tfilepath" is the path
to the document I wish to open, is this correct?

Are there other solutions for opening external files? I know that the
launch command will open a file provided you can provide both a
documentPath and applicationPath. What would you do if you do not
know the path to an application on the end users hard drive? Also is
there a way to determine the existence of an application on the end
users disk?
