If you look at the source (SqlMapSession.cs in the root of the DataMapper project), the connection timeout of the current connection is copied to the CommandTimeout inside the CreateCommand function.
Allowing us to override this per statement in xml would be very nice! The current method is a big hammer, but it does get the job done.
