If this in not being done than are you programatically setting the connections?

Actually, in the particular case I cited below, I was simply experimenting with 
no iBatis transaction API calls at all.  So there was no begin, commit or end.  
I was just curious what happened in the absense of referencing the iBatis 
transaction API.
