Hi

Realsoft3D does support loading of Real3D projects, although I haven't tested it much in the latest version(s).

Materials are handled poorly, so prepare to remake every signe one of them.

Animation isn't handled at all, since it deals with completely new approaches. Old animation pathlines is set to render visible, which can be a bi*tch to hunt down in bigger projects. If you have animations where you used the old LINK object, you'll have to reorganize the whole animation approach as RS3D doesn't seem to have the same possibility.

Splines are imported, I believe they are transformed to Nurbs, which is a far better toolset. How accurate this new representation is, I have no idea.

Imports into earlier versions of RS3D had some strange faults with booleans, but I think and hope they have fixed it now. Think it was something about the analyticals themselves that was broken, which I assume is fixed now.

So, it kinda works, but it's a lot of work. I had a truckmounted grasscutting machine I made and rendered in v3.53, and required some work. But I replaced/converted almost every single analytical cube for SDS versions, and set all egdes to free radius, and it looked good, and handled well enough to use.

Not sure how much work you are willing to spend, but I would upgrade regardless. You're simply just missing out on too much otherwise.

Regards
Karl (sorry for the end rant)

Hello,

Does anyone know if Realsoft3D can open/convert Real 3D project files (I'm planning to upgrade and want to know if I can use my current project files in RS3D).
And if so, what will happen to b-spline objects? Are B-splines still supported or will they be converted into something else/better?

Thnkas.
