Hi,

Doodling away with my space scene recently and got around to texturing the Space Ship. I became aware of something that I had previously forgotten. Have a look at this pic:

I used UVSETS to do this. Notice between the yellow arrows you have an area specified by the UVSET which is grey around the red strip. The red texture should be covering these grey areas also. While discussing this last night at the IRC I was reminded that if the mesh is a smoothed SDS the texture will not follow the smoothing process. This mesh is a smooth SDS but the edges are hardened with the Alt Drag option [ To Change Edge Roundings ] used on each of the faces.

Now I hear you say - well it looks like a non smoothed Polygonal mesh why smooth it in the first place? Well I want the option to have a mix if possible - thats why :)

My question - Accepting the fact that you can break up the mesh and texture each part of the whole mesh separately [ a whole load of extra work ] - is there any other way around this problem? Is this inherent in RS'es Base SDS Code and if so will this whole problem of texturing SDS Smoothed Meshes be sorted at a later release date? If so when?

As texturing can be the make or break for a scene - it is then very important. To be able to use UVSETS and TEXTURE Smoothed SDS should be a must have? Am I right or wrong?

Cheers
Aidan
