Hi Frank,
I'm not sure why it was this slow I rendered (
http://www.frankdodd.screaming.net/4-35.jpg ) in 4mins 35s on my trusty
old Athlon 1.3 cpu. This scene contained a 360 nurbs curves with 12
points each (I assume your curves have many more points) the radius of
the curves was 10mm, the scene contained 3 lights one distant two point
lights shadowing was on and the curves were rendered against an
analytical disk in standard 'super high quality' and at the resolution
you see in the scene.
The point count doesnt seam to make a difference (assuming your not
running out of memory) as I increased the density of my curves to 120
points ( 43,200 points) and the scene rendered in 2mins 45s (please
don't ask me to explain this :) . Do you have metalic materials applied
to your curves? I applied gold to my scene at the root level and
re-rendered the render time was an acceptable 15mins 38 seconds
(http://www.frankdodd.screaming.net/15-48.jpg). Do you have soft
shadowing switched on? I switched soft shadowing on both point lights at
quality 8 default radius and had a render time of 40mins 19s. Which was
respectable for this type of scene I think.
If you still have problems after tweaking perhaps you should post up
your project file.
Best of luck,
Frank "The Rookie" Dodd

Dear Realsoft friends, I attach a simple "nurbscurve" picture with to
nurbscurve balls (rundabout 60 - 100 nurbscurves), three lights
(points), one distant light, two colours (gold, copper2) and an
analytic ground. The rendering time are nearly 3 hours (800x600) with
a pentium III machine, I know, its not so fast! ;-) .
How can I reduce the rendering times with realsoft 5.1 at all? a)
scanline rendering, b) Quality reduce from 24 to 4 (a good advice from
beginner, thank you!) and more??? Perhaps somebody can help me for the
further rendering days ;-) My experience with the rendering theme is
not very high; I am here a bloody beginner! :-)
Have a nice week end to all engaged realsoft friends ;-), best regards
and "servus", Frank Brübach
