Hi Matthias..

ok thx for verify this, and yep I see that too that customchannels dont seem to show up in the 'Animateable Attributes' list, until RS has updated it..

So this really seems like a bug..
I will report it when I get back in a few hours..
Dont seems like it will make it to SP3...

Its really would be good to get a soon fix, since using the 'Map2' Tool is such a nice way of adding values to loads of objects or points of objects in one go...

Lets hope it gets fixed..

Another thing about the 'Animateable Attributes' list..
I really hope for V6, that it can have a 'Basic' and an 'Advance' option to it..
'Basic' --> Normal attributes specific to that type of object and so on
'Advanced' --> ALL Attribute thinkable..=), and maybe a browser or 'Add' Function so that users can add own
(Since I  could think of many cool ways and combinations of using some attributes as input for other, for cool things and special fx..)
I always stumble upon things that cant be animated..(that isnt in the list), some of them I have worked around using Tags, passing values to some attributes that wont directly show up in the 'Anim.. Attributes' list..and so on..
But many cant be even worked around.. =(

Hopefully all attributes will be animateable in V6, at least most..

Hi Stefan,

another strange thing is, that if you make the "sphere" choreographable,
the "channel" is only visible in the chor windows animateable attributes after
hitting enter in the properties windows col tab. By default it's not in the list
of animateable attributes ?!?

Subject: Re: How do I set a background color using the post effects?

Hi Matthias..

Here is a simple prj, with your VSL Effect and some simple spheres that I have assigned values into your custom channel, one of them the second last, to that sphere I have clicked the field and pressed enter.. this one will render..the others wont render at all...
This was done Prior to when I saved the prj, which shows that even when loaded from start, it wont sense the valuechange of the others, only the one I fixed, prior to save, works as it should..(by click n return)

I have tested several things, including changing frame and other things to update..
but at least uptil now, I havent found a fix.. =(..

The material that is included is only a oneliner that is used with the 'Map2' Tool, to assign the values to your customchannel, based on the Map coord x value..of the Material Mapping..

Thx in advance

Is it possible to add a testscene?
Try moving the frame slider one or two frames to update the objects?!?
Is this working?

(strange render result on my side, too, hehe:

Subject: Re: How do I set a background color using the post effects?

Hi Matthias and all again..

I use the 'Map2' Tool to assign "no background" values to each object, and they get this value, but dont start to work with background PostImage...until I in 'Col' Tab in the field, click and hit return..(having loads of objects.. then it will defeat the purpose..=)  =(

Do you have an idea if I have done something wrong, or if it is what I think an update bug...?
Thought I would ask you first..
Otherwise I report it as a bug, if I cant find a solution..

Since its very handy to assign any type of values to many objects in one go, this way..
btw.. this multipurpose tool, 'Map2' Tool.. really should have more docs..tuts and so on..its very useful, and also not very well documented.!

Thanks in advance

Your solution how to use the VSL effect works nicely..! thx again

Hi Matthias..

Thx it works very well.. (As far as I see, it completely does what I had in mind, it will be nice for anim fx..!)

Works nicely also to set for individual points of SDS and Nurb objects (in the 'Spec' Tab, 'Attribute' Dropdown..)

Yep a tut on the wiki would be nice !

Thx for your fast and nice input on this..! (and many other things !)

Uuups, a better one with fade out.

Have a look at the
PostEffects-->"add-background-color" Material.

Use the Attribute dropdown from the Objects- "Properties Windows"
"Col" tab to adjust the visibility via the "is-not-background" attribute.

Hi Matthias..

Thx for sharing this..!

Also to add an image this way, use the VSL Texture Object with its 'Input' set to UV Coords...

btw..
Can one get this effect to work smoothly from Background to Forground?
and not just either Background OR Forground..!
(Since using as you did, either objects are shown, or they are hidden by the VSL effect..)
I mean, so you can set one object to be in front of, another in the middle and one behind, the VSL rendered effect....
So
The object in front, is fully visible..
The object in middle, is semi mixed with the VSL effect
The object behind, is fully covered by the VSL effect (object wont show)
(the in front, middle and behind, is not in space, but just in relation to if its rendered in front, mixed or behind the VSL effect...)

One way to mix, can be done when using custom channel and setting the + for the VSL objects inside the IF level, but it is for ALL rendered objects and not per object settable.. (as far as I know...)

How do I set a background plain color using the post effects?

How do I set texture as background with the post effects?

My god this is humiliating asking for such stupid question.
