This is what a severe depression can do. There is no other explanation.
The killer was not a monster, his brain just stopped functioning

Monster is a word :

There is a Monster but please do not try to define it . Like
saying this Monster was a fatal series of 32 calibre bullets .

My God , how can those affected by such a bizzare violent act
possibly be comforted by understanding that it is simply a
matter of acute depression ?

It is many many more times complicated than that , which is
exactly why there is no comfort , for anyone ... anywhere !

10 million recreational bullets get fired every day , without
deaths . 300 Million depressed people function appropriately
within the system every day without randomly killing .

These types of violent acts will never , in our time , offer
any kind of closure or any type of sympathetic understanding to
families but instead should only lead anyone affected to ask
the same question , over and over - how can this be happening ?

No offense Jean , but perhaps the answer lie's much more deeply
than yours , or in fact , lie's no where to be found at all ...

normally with the depression.
This is really sad.

If you read what the killer wrote on youtube and what he did (random killing) you can see that he did exactly the opposite of his own opinion.

This guy was suffering from a mental illness (depression and paranoia).
A malfunctioning brain did this massacre (not human evil).

It's terrible that the media will try to find any other explanation like : games, tv, music etc.

Hope that the victims (direct and indirect) can find peace again.

Of course there is the social things around that can influence. But the main factor of action is paranoid-depression and/or other mental illness. My girlfriend works in that field (heavy mental illness) and she sees kids like that on a daily basis. And these are sometimes really functional people like you and me when the medication works (sometimes), but the condition deterior/impair their brain with time.

We cannot understand that because we are not suffering from a mental illness?
