Another idea for a , subtle change this time .

Normally , I prefer to do all mapping & modeling in
'Parallel Mode' in the viewport , but am usually in
'Perspective mode' when rendering or searching for
camera angles .

  So then ,

1) Click on the Icon to grab a Top/Side/Front view .
2) Click on the Icon to change the View Modes .

How about ... Left-Click the Top View Icon to
change to that view , but Right-Click changes
to that view and toggles the View Mode also ?

Or , Right-Click the Top-View Icon (for instance)
always changes it to Parallel also ?

The Top/Side/Front view Icons have no Right-Click
function right now , so maybe a function could be
added to them ? Why not ?

Same with the 'Reset-View' Icon . Right-Click it
to get the default view in Parallel mode (now we
automatically get the default view in Perspective) .

Same with the 'Raytrace Icon' . Right clicking it
will render the screen in Mosaic Mode , or make the
Right Click a user configurable mode ?

Same with OpenGL Mode . Right-Click and the Icon
changes to a Wireframe Icon for GDi draw-mode ?

Just an Idea .
