is the internal RS blur in use ;-) If you like to render a channel to "file" create a new "Output object" tick "Edit bindings" add assign the desired channels. I don't know which comp app do you have, but if it supports more than 8bit per channel, try "PSD" with 16bit set. And don't forget to add the new "Image Format" in the "File Render"->"Output" RS can render more than one image at a time ;-? No need to render your scene twice.
