The easiest way is to download the version that's bundled with Tomcat:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=86297&package_id=89560

Then fire up Tomcat the usual ways. (bin/startup.sh) That should give you
both an author and public instance running on your machine on port 8080 with
a minimum of fuss.
